Winter squash. Such a delicious treat, but also can be intimidating to prepare. But, as always, having the right tools can make a world of difference! Today I am sharing a super quick tip on how I prepare winter squash. This method can work with any type of squash such as butternut, spaghetti, and even pumpkin!
Drumroll please.....it's a grapefruit spoon! I find that the teeth along with the spoon work perfectly to get those seeds out and scooped into either a bowl to rinse and roast later or directly into your compost.
To get the squash to the point that you see in the photo below, simply use a sharp knife to cut the ends off, and then cut the squash lengthwise down the middle. Once you have de-seeded it, use a potato peeler to peel the tough outside skin (my dog, Buster loves to eat the little pieces of skin!). Now you can cube the squash to roast in the oven or to cook in a stir-fry or soup.
